Second annual "Affaire des Artes" kicks off today
Today's "Affaire des Artes" event features art and literary fairs, live music, storytelling, improv theatre and three Minnesota authors presenting talks, a press release sent to the Pioneer Journal said.
The event is scheduled to take place in downtown Wadena's Burlington Northern Park. It's a day to showcase the area's visual artists, writers and musicians.
"Celebrating the outstanding talents of people who live right here is one of the goals of the Arts League," Mim Maas stated. "Bringing people to Wadena is another goal."
The day begins at 11 a.m. with Wadena author Paul Sailer talking about his book, "The Oranges are Sweet". Later at noon "Brothers Burn Mountain", a duo of musicians that have become regulars at Harvest Thyme Bistro, will hit the stage.
"The DL Cloggers", a foot-stomping dance troupe from Detroit Lakes, will also appear during the event. Additionally, the day's keynote author, Brett Laidlaw, will speak at 1 p.m.
At 2 p.m., Sonja Kosler will share her talents in storytelling, followed by an e-publishing presentation by author Ken Korczak.
At 4 p.m., "Jammin with Brad and Ron", a trio of musicians from Staples, will take the stage. Following their performance, there will be a short audience participation opportunity, as members of Madhatters Community Theatre initiate an improve theatre fun time.
In addition to the scheduled events, from 1 to 4 pm there will be children's art activities, food and a possible music jam at the end of the day.
