"We're pleased to welcome such a qualified candidate to our board," said Joel Beiswenger, TCHC president and CEO. "With his extensive background in education, we look forward to the knowledge and new ideas Dave will offer."

A native of Herreid, S.D., Fjeldheim received his bachelor's degree in education in 1980, and his master's degree in secondary school administration in 1990 from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. He furthered his education career in 2001 by receiving his K-12 principal certification from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. In 2005, Fjeldheim received his superintendent certification, which includes 30 credits beyond a master's degree through St. Cloud State University.

Over the years, Fjeldheim has worked as a teacher, coach, athletic director, principal, and most recently, superintendent. He was hired as K-12 principal of Sebeka schools in fall 2004. Fjeldheim attained the position of superintendent in 2006.

"I look forward to working with the Board of Directors to help promote the economic importance of TCHC in our regional area," said Fjeldheim. "Like schools in the state of Minnesota, healthcare is also under severe economic stress due to the current strain on state budgets. No one looks forward to the financial challenges ahead, but I believe that the TCHC Governing Board, management, physicians, and staff will come together and create new insights and new opportunities for communities served by TCHC."

Fjeldheim's community and professional involvement includes numerous organizations. He is an active member on the Tri-County Hospital Foundation Board, Minnesota State Community and Technical College Foundation Board, and the Wadena County Family Services Collaborative Board. He also serves as president of the Sebeka Economic Development Authority Board, supervising superintendent for Freshwater Education District, and is a member of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and National Association of School Administrators.

He and his wife, Kathy, who is a special education teacher at Sebeka High School, have two children: Christopher, 27, and Alicia, 23.

Other TCHC governing board members include: Luther Nervig, Don Bottemiller, Jeanette Coleman, Kip Browne, Jolene Johannes, Dr. Tim Schmitt, Jon Johnson, Dr. Aaron Larson, Dr. Thomas VanBruggen, Dave Quincer, and Dr. Bobbi Adams.
