Schmitz ran a season-best time 15:44 as the WDC girls’ team placed 10th in a field of 11 teams with 221.

“Emma is continuing her improvement progression...she ran Park Rapids 22 seconds faster this year than she did last year.  Her competition at the ‘front end’ of the races is also running well so we'll see,” WDC Head Coach Mike Brunsberg said. “Either way, she's finishing the season strong -- controlling the only factor she can - herself.”

Abi Motschenbacher turned in a 46th place finish with a career-best time of 17:17. Tiffany Meeks finished five places behind with a career-best 17:42. Briana Malone ran a career-best time of 18:19 to place 64th. Gabi Ross finished 72nd with a season-best 19:05.

Ellie Nelson of Roseau was the individual champion with a 15:04.

Konnor Stueve and Jimmy Kim paced the WDC boys with times of 19:46 and 19:47 earning the 50th and 51st place finishes. Shunsuke Nozawa ran a career best time of 20:16 for 63rd place. Alex Lorentz ran a 22:55 for 87th place. Isaac Hale finished 93rd with a 24:25.

The WDC boys ran as a team for the first time this season and placed 12th out of 13 teams.

Keeghan Hurley of Perham took first in the boys’ race with a 15:52.

The Perham boys’ and girls’ teams both dominated team competition. Detroit Lakes finished second in the boys’ race and Park Rapids took runner-up honors in the girls’ race.

The Wolverines were without the services of cross country standout Will Eliason.

“Will has not been practicing, having sustained a lower leg injury in physical education. It doesn't seem serious, but he's being conservative with his recovery.  I'm hoping that with some time off, he'll be able to run Friday,” Brunsberg said.

The Wolverines will now prepare for the Section 8A meet Oct. 25 at Twin Pines Golf Course near Bagley.
