Schmitz, Janson set pace for Wolverines in Perham Invitational

Emma Schmitz finished 26th and Neil Janson placed 41st Thursday in the Perham Invitational at Arvig Park.

Schmitz ran a 16:39.61 in the girls' varsity race.

Fergus Falls' Haylie Zenner won the race with a 15:07.30. Runner-up honors went to Moorhead's Taylor Janssen of Moorhead who ran a 15:11.72. Rounding out the Top Five in the 73-girl race were Little Falls' Maria Hauer (15:47.56), Moorhead's Avery Selberg (15:52.72) and Detroit Lakes' Abby Ullyoll (15:55.43).

Janson ran an 18:27.62 in the boys' varsity field of 88 runners. The Wolverines placed 11th as a team. Rounding out the WDC finishers were Zach Bernu, who placed 68th with a 19:51.67; Joey Pate, who placed 75th with a 20:55.86, Brody Wangsness, who ran 78th with a 21:29.07 and Lukas Krueger, who placed 80th with a 21:49.56.

Moorhead's Glen Ellingson won the race with a 16:14.31, Nevis' Bryon Schuldt ran a 16:14.87, Little Falls' Preston Zimny ran a 16:32.15, Fergus Falls' Keeghan Hurley ran a 16:32.71 and Perham's Keith Schornack ran a 16:36.37.
