Amos Schmidt set the winning pace in both the 110 and 300 hurdles Tuesday as the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders kicked off their outdoor track and field season at the Wild Oats Open in Fergus Falls.
The 2009 Class A state qualifier ran the 110 in a time of 17.83 and took the 300 with a 54.94 effort.
Rosalyn Johnson also stood out for the Raiders as she took third in the 110 hurdles with an 18.37 and third in the 300 hurdles with a 54.94, just ahead of teammate Dezarae Weekley who took fourth with a 56.99.
The Raiders scored a pair of fourths in the relays with the BHV boys team running a 1:41.37 in the 4x200 and the BHV girls turning a 56.75 in the 4x100.
Fergus Falls' Lizzy Link was a triple winner in the Wild Oats. Link set a new school record in the triple jump with a 34-9 effort. She also ran the 200 in 27.43 and won the 100 with a 13.50.
Dominic Jones and Haylie Zenner were double winners for Fergus. Jones set the winning pace in the 100 and 200 dash events with times of 12.03 and 24.32. Zenner won the long jump by going 16-4 and took the 400 with a time of 1:01.84.
Perham's Maddie McClellan and Elisa Moenkedick each captured two titles. McClellan ran a 5:34.11 in the 1,600 and a 2:32.61 in the 800. Moenkedick put the shot 35-8 and tossed the discus 137-01.
