Savoie stepping down as WDC hockey coach

Dan Savoie is stepping aside as Wadena-Deer Creek's head boys' hockey coach.

Savoie recently wrapped up his fourth season at the helm. During his four years as head coach he had a record of 31-70-2.

"I'm resigning as coach mostly for personal reasons," Savoie said. Savoie plans to continue as a sixth-grade teacher at WDC Elementary while he devotes time to earning a masters degree.

Savoie has coached hockey for 15 years. He started at a school in California and then coached in Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes.

Savoie plans to continue as a youth football coach.

The district will be starting a search for a new head hockey coach. Practice for the 2011-2012 season begins in November.
