Ruth Mae Miksche, 89, of Long Prairie, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born to Andrew and Diana (Cormier) Virnig in Harvey, N.D. She graduated from Harvey High School and from St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, Minn. as a registered nurse. She married Anthony F. Miksche on Aug. 23, 1942 at Camp Hulen in Texas.
Ruth made her home in Breckenridge while Anthony served overseas in World War II. Upon Anthony's discharge from the Army, they raised their family in Breckenridge. In 1955, Ruth returned to nursing as an operating room nurse. In 1963, Anthony and Ruth moved to Ottertail, where Ruth worked as an RN at the Perham Memorial Hospital and the Biegler Doctor's Clinic until she retired.
Ruth enjoyed cooking, entertaining, playing bridge, various card games, golf, telling oral family history, gardening, and food preservation. She also loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Jan. 6, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with the Rev. Richard Walz officiating. Survivors include her children, Toni Ebner of Otter Tail Lake, Kathy Stoutland of South Carolina, Mark (Jodi) Miksche of Long Prairie; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Ella Mae (Phillip) Johnson of Fargo.
