Russell Lee Makela

The funeral service for Russell Makela was held 11 a.m. Dec. 28, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Christie Meier, presiding.

Russell Lee Makela, 64, of Wadena passed away at home Dec. 22, 2012. He was born in Wadena County on Jan. 25, 1948, to Elmer John and Ida Makela.

Russell attended District 2438 and Sebeka High School. Also, he worked in the logging and sawmill industry, and as a carpenter in Montana and Minnesota.

He married Carol Holling of Montana in 1970. They had three sons, Brent, Aaron and Justin. For the remainder of his life, Russell resided in the Deer River, Minn., area and Wadena County.

Russell enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings, was very interested in his family genealogy and had a deep love for family. He was kindhearted and generous with whatever he had.

Russell is survived by sons, Brent (Brandy), Justin (Shawna) and Aaron (Mitzi) Duvall; granddaughters, Mikayla, Madison, Jascyee, Karrissa, Brailyn, Kira, Kyser and Kelsey; grandson, Grady; brothers, Jim (Janet) Makela of Menahga, Clyde and Wesley (Carol) Makela of Menahga, Clarence of Boulder, Mont., and Harvey of Park Rapids; sisters, Ellen (Gerald) Benson of Erhard, Minn., Irene Romaniuk of Plymouth, Norma Jean (Gary) Walker of Helena, Mont., Marge (Gary) Harju of Aurora, Minn., Sheila Mattson of Boulder, Mont., Vivian Sazama of Detroit Lakes and Trudy (Bruce) Hollman of Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer John and Ida; and brothers, Ervin, Verner and Donald.

Pallbearers were Aaron Duval, Adam Makela, John Makela, Troy Makela, Eric Makela, Luke Makela, Gabe Sunram and Garrett Sunram.

Burial was in Mantyla Cemetery in Red Eye Township, near Sebeka.

Arrangements were with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes in Wadena.
