The incident started about 11:50 p.m. when a citizen called into the sheriff's office to report poor driving behavior. A deputy located the vehicle a short time later on County Road 23 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. That's when the driver, 26-year-old Jennifer Hodgden, fled from the deputy at high speed for nearly 9 miles, according to a sheriff's office news release.

A Minnesota State Trooper employed stop sticks, safely disabling a tire. The vehicle came to a stop a short time later. Nobody was injured and no other property was damaged during the pursuit.

Hodgden was taken into custody without further incident. A 7-year-old child was later found to be in the vehicle with Hodgden and was taken to a family member’s residence unharmed.  Hodgden is currently in the Wadena County jail, held on suspicion of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and DWI test refusal.

Wadena and Verndale Police Departments assisted the sheriff's office during the incident.
