Rude, Redfield trigger playoff win

Jake Rude hit two home runs and Ryan Redfield scattered seven hits Monday as Wadena-Deer Creek trounced Staples-Motley 13-3 in Sub-District 6 Legion play at Menahga.

Rude launched a three-run shot and a two-run round tripper in the five-inning rout. The WDC catcher scored three times. Redfield went 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice. Jonathan Goeden scored three times and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Colter Petitt went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Redfield went all the way on the hill. The Post 171 hurler gave up three walks while striking out nine.

"Redfield threw a good game and we were able to get the bats going after a nine-day break," WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff said.

Gunnar Johnson homered for Staples-Motley and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jordan Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a double.

WDC fell to Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 11-0 in the second round but ended the day assured of a berth in the upcoming District 6 Tournament in Menahga.
