Rovang wins Otter Tail Lake Chase

Photo by Ben Jacobson The field sets sail in the 25th annual Otter Tail Lake Chase on Otter Tail Lake. Veteran runner Joel Rovang of Moorhead won the 8-kilometer portion of the race.

Moorhead veteran Joel Rovang ran away with the eight-kilometer title Saturday in the 25th running of the Otter Tail Lake Chase.

The 45-year-old Rovang turned in a winning time of 29:05 to pace field of 144 runners. Finishing second was Jason Toth of Cornwallon, N.Y. with a time of 31:16. Fergus Falls' Nathan Jensen finished third with a 31:50 effort. The Top 10 was rounded out by Wahpeton's Keirann Smith (31:54), St. Cloud's Elena Danielson (32:31), Bluffton's Brittin Roberts (32:40), Fergus Falls' Daniel Stueve (32:48), Pelican Rapids' Jackie Larson (32:48), Wahpeton's Jake Krohn (32:53) and St. Cloud's Greta Danielson (32:56).

Roberts' time was the fastest in the 16-19 age group. Stueve was runner-up in the 16-19 group.

Austin's Lynn and Chris Astrup were the top two finishers in the 5K Walk. A field of 75 walkers competed.
