Rosella Catherine 'Sally' (Kern) Dunblazier
Feb. 19, 1927 -- March 22, 2013
The Mass of Christian Burial for Rosella Catherine "Sally" (Kern) Dunblazier was held Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena, with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant.
Rosella, 86, passed away March 22 at Tri-County Health Care in Wadena.
She was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Wadena to Simon and Theresa (Entringer) Kern of Bluegrass, Minn. At an early age, her uncle nicknamed her Sally and it stuck. She attended school in the one-room District 11 school house in Leaf River Township.
Sally was employed as an operator for Bell Telephone for a number of years before she met and married David (Blaine) Dunblazier on May 1, 1954. After many years as a homemaker, she went to work at Red Owl Bakery. Sally's attention to detail as a cake decorator gained her local popularity, and she retired as the bakery manager.
Sally enjoyed many close friends. She loved her family and was a meticulous homemaker, gardener, crocheter and seamstress. Whether self-taught or by trial-and-error, she fixed it, made it, grew it, canned it, baked it, sewed it, refurbished it, upholstered it, refinished it, transformed it, decorated it, painted it, stained it and improved it. No challenge was too great, she tackled it all.
In her later years, Sally became an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed travel in the U.S. and abroad. Throughout her years, she volunteered her time and talent with craft activities for the residents at Fair Oaks Lodge. Whatever project she undertook she faithfully performed it to the best of her abilities. Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2005, she bravely sought strategies and treatment to cope with the challenges of the disease.
Sally was a member of VFW Women's Auxiliary and Christian Mothers. In 1999 she co-chaired the all class reunion of District 11. The replica school house she constructed is displayed at the Wadena Historical Society.
Preceding Sally in death were her parents; husband, Blaine, in 1996; son, Donavon; sisters, Lorraine Kern and Romaine Heffelfinger; and brothers, Donald, Franklin and Gerald.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah Dunblazier of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Denise (Jose) Gonzalez of Waco, Texas, and DeeAnn Dunblazier of St. Cloud; son, Duane (Julie) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and sister, Marcy Tabery of Wadena.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren Garrett, Grant and Grace Gonzalez, as well as Derek Korzendorfer, Devin Dunblazier and David Dunblazier.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Wadena.
Arrangements were with Schuller Family Funeral Homes' Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena.
