Funeral services were held for Ronald Bernu on Oct. 3 at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Don Salo officiating.
Ronald Delbert Bernu was born on Sept. 7, 1954, in Perham. His parents are Delbert and Carolyn (Piekkola) Bernu. Ron graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1972 and also attended Willmar Community College.
On Sept. 30, 1978, Ron was united in marriage with Carol Grismer at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Perham. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Charlene and Jessica.
Together Ron and Carol made their home in New York Mills. Ron enjoyed being self-employed in construction, and he also owned and operated R&R Country Home Sales in New York Mills. In Ron's spare time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, Monday-night golf league, carpentry and especially being a Grandpa.
On Sept. 29, Ron passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and the care of Red River Valley Hospice, at age 58. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Preceding Ron in death were his grandparents, Matt and Esther Bernu, as well as Walter and Linda Piekkola.
Ron is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol Bernu of New York Mills; his two daughters, Charlene (Michael) LeRoux of Sabin, Minn. and Jessica (Joshua) Clemons of Appleton, Wis.; two precious grandchildren, Damien and Anna; two step-grandchildren, Dylan and Ethan; parents, Delbert and Carolyn Bernu of New York Mills; sister Sherri (Ricky) Koehler of New York Mills; four brothers, Roger (Marilyn) Bernu of Baxter, Virgil Bernu of New York Mills, Vincent (Jan) Bernu of Deer Creek, and Steven Bernu of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Gwen Damlo and Brogan Resch provided the hymns. The pallbearers were Ron's nephews, Jason Damlo, Christopher Bernu, Chad Bernu, Joshua Bernu, Zachery Bernu, Ross Damlo, Michael Bahls, Nate Grismer and Jim Young. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ron's nieces. Ron was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.
