The funeral services for Robert C. Lindberg of Wadena, and formerly of Sebeka, were held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 7 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wadena with church leader Jim Stoneman presiding. Robert passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday, July 3, 2014, at his home.
Robert was born to Axel and Mary (Melander) Lindberg in Frederic, WI. He graduated from Grantsberg, WI with the class of 1947.
In October of 1950, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he spent 2 years stationed in England. He was then stationed in the 739th AC&W Squadron, Wadena Air Force Station. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in October of 1954.
Robert was united in marriage with Darlene Rebehn on June 12, 1954. He then worked with A.F. Danielson auditing books for the Coop Auditing Service for several years. He then applied for Wadena County Treasurer where he worked until retirement in December 1995.
Bob loved to travel and purchased a camper topper for their pick up. Bob, Darlene and Bob Jr. took vacations and saw many parts of the US. In 2011 Bob and Darlene flew with friends to England for a once in a lifetime experience.
Bob loved hunting, fishing and golf. He and friends hunted elk in Montana and fished in Canada on many fly-ins. He golfed on men's night in Wadena and entered several tournaments.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Axel and Mary; sisters Leona Hokanson and Mildred Illg; brothers Arnold, Wilbur, Murlyn, Walter and Reynold.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene; son Robert and grandson Wil of Bemidji; sisters Betty Anderson and Grace (Neil) Miller, both of Grantsberg, WI; as well as many nieces & nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers were Wil Lindberg (grandson), Chris Kirschman, Loren Fiskum, Jim Logan, Jim Bounds, Don Simmons, Archie Coson, Dick Tweete, Steve Pierson, Jim Truax and Duane Ness.
Pallbearers were Robert Lindberg (son), Gary Kirschman, Wayne Lindberg, Mark Lindberg, Dick Manlove and Ray Savaloja.
Military honors were provided by Wadenas Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Burial was in Wadena Cemetery.
