Resident wants to thank Greensburg
Wadena resident Helen Solum approached the Wadena City Council with an idea to take a charter bus or other travel arrangements to Greensburg, Kan. to join their May 4 tornado recovery anniversary and give them a thank-you card or poster board signed by as many area residents as possible.
"I did contact about 40 businesses," she said.
Greensburg was devastated by an EF5 tornado in 2007, destroying 97 percent of the small town.
In late September, Matt Deighton of Greensburg had visited Wadena to share stories of tornado recovery and examples of sustainable concepts.
"He did drive 900 miles," Solum said. "It's been about five months since that resident from Greensburg, Kan. came to Wadena to help and advise us on how to start rebuilding."
In November, Rosemary Kostrzewski from the city of Wadena office and WDC school board chairwoman Ann Pate traveled to meet Deighton and visit Greensburg.
City council member Jeanette Baymler said that Mid-Central Federal Savings Bank might be a good resource for travel arrangements.
