Renee Annette Martini, 52, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, in Chisago City, Minn.

She was born April 10, 1957, in Wadena. She was the daughter of Chester and the late Norma (Aho) Martini.

Renee graduated from Sebeka High School in 1975 and earned her bachelor's degree in social work from Moorhead State College in 1980.

Her sorority sisters of Alpha Phi have remained lifelong friends. She received her master's in social work from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and most recently worked as social service supervisor at Chisago County of Health and Human Services in Center City, Minn.

She devoted her professional career to working with the mentally handicapped, working with the juvenile court system, supporting foster parents, being a therapist in addition to volunteering as a guardian ad litum when she lived in St. Paul. She loved spending time with family and friends and will be remembered for her zest for life in addition to her wonderful sense of humor. She was a compassionate advocate for her clients and a devoted, inspiring co-worker. She also loved to dance, to travel, and was an avid reader. Renee's faith, courage and indomitable spirit, especially during her illness, were an inspiration to all.

The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the following institutions: The University of Minnesota Hospital Neurological Services, Fairview Wyoming Hospital and Heartland Hospice. Many thanks also to all the family and friends who supported Renee during her lifetime as well as during her illness.

A celebration of Renee's life was held Wednesday, Dec. 30, at United Methodist Church in North Branch, Minn., with the Rev. William C. Larson officiating. Survivors include her daughter, Britta Hagstrom; father, Chester (Doris) Martini; brother, Jerome (Jeannie) Martini; sisters, RuthAnn (Bill) Uggen and Lorie (Jim) Baron; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Nicholas Oscar Hagstrom; her mother, Norma (Aho) Martini; and her infant brother, Larry Ray Martini.
