Registration opens for Miss Wadena pageant
Registration is open for the Miss Wadena Scholarship Pageant which will be held Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m.
Elegibility requirements are that candidates must be females from the Wadena-Deer Creek School District graduating in the class of 2013 or 2014. They must be of good moral character, single and never married, and a citizen of the United States.
Contestants will be judged on personal interview (35 percent), talent (30 percent), evening gown (15 percent), on-stage question (10 percent) and casual wear (10 percent). There is no swimsuit competition.
The judging for the personal interview will be in the afternoon on the day of the pageant with the judges, and the balance of the competition will be held during the pageant in the evening.
Some of the idea for talent include vocal, piano, instrumental, poetry, oratory, speech, dance, gymnastics or lip sync.
The new Miss Wadena will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship, personal services and more. The runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship, the second runner-up a $250 scholarship and the remaining candidates a $100 scholarship.
Contestants will be required to attend three to five rehearsals starting a couple of weeks before the pageant. Practices will include learning an easy opening production number, interview practice and a photo shoot for paper and program. Dress and stage rehearsals will be held each evening the week prior to the pageant.
The application deadline is May 8, 2013. The pageant is open to the first 10 qualified applicants. A minimum of five will be required to hold a pageant.
Applications will be available at school early in April. A small kickoff gathering will be held in the commons area of the school April 10 at 7:30 a.m.
