Redfield dazzles Patriots with no-hitter
Ryan Redfield dazzled Pequot Lakes with a no-hitter Tuesday as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines gained a split with their Mid-State rivals on the WDC diamond.
The Wolverines pulled out a 1-0 victory in Game 1 before coming up short in a 6-5 nightcap.
"Ryan had electric stuff," WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff said. "It was hands down the best pitching performance that WDC has had in my four seasons as head coach."
Redfield walked two and fanned 11 in his pitching gem,
The Wolverines scored the only run of Game 1 in the second inning when Jonathan Goeden drove in Kenny Sakry. Jake Krause was 2-for-3 in the victory.
The Patriots jumped on the WDC starter Kenny Sakry in the first inning of Game 2 and scored four times. The Wolverines waited until the bottom of the seventh to make it a one-run game.
Gaven Bickford went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for the Patriots. Sakry, Goeden and Christian Berg all had two safeties for the Wolverines. Matt Laughlin scored twice and drove one run.

Ryan Redfield went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in five runs Friday as the Wolverines hammered the Raiders in five frames.
Matt Laughlin, Christian Berg and Jake Rude all came up with two safeties and drove in two runs for WDC.
Dallas Ehrmantraut and Travis Eckel paced the Raiders with two hits apiece. Ehrmantraut scored twice and Eckel was credited with two RBIs. Preston Riewer also scored twice for the Raiders.
Jake Krause posted the mound win. Five Verndale pitchers combined for 10 walks.
"You have to throw strikes," BHV Head Coach Steve Riewer said.

Blake Petrich and Cody Drones lifted the Cardinals a seventh-inning victory over the Wolverines in Game 1 and eight errors helped them complete a doubleheader sweep Thursday in Mid-State action.
Petrich collected a key triple to help the Cards tie the game at 5-all in the bottom of the sixth. Drones drove in the winning run in the last of the seventh with an infield hit.
Petrich scored twice in the opener while Jordan Jenkins scored once and drove in three RBIs.
Four WDC players, Christian Berg, Ryan Redfield, Jonathan Goeden and Isaac Zeise came up with one hit aiece.
Redfield and Zeise had RBIs.
Petrich went the distance on the hill despite giving up seven walks. Matt Laughlin also walked seven in suffered the loss.
Jacob Vetsch was steady in Game 2 walking just two while fanning five. Starter Jonathan Goeden suffered the mound loss.
Jalen Busker and Jordan Wick combined to score five times for the Cards while Kyle Jansson and Wick both drove in two runs.
Jake Krause and David Najjar went 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Krause and Ryan Redfield both drove in runs.
