Raymond Bernard Ament, 90, passed away April 4, 2010 at the Elder's Home in New York Mills.
He was born to Henry and Clara (Schmiesing) on May 21, 1919 in Bluffton. Ray served honorably in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was united in marriage with Evelyn Ann Schmitz on Nov. 27, 1945. He found his livelihood in farming, sales, insurance and cars. Ray loved Twins baseball, baking, cooking, gardening, and he especially enjoyed his family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on April 9 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton with the Rev. Scott Wittkop as celebrant. Pallbearers are Klayton Ament, Derek Ament, Erik Oja, Eric Elhardt, Brandon Belich and Chad Currier. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Wadena. Interment was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Bluffton. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his children, Steven Ament of Reno, Nev., Wallace (Terri) of Carlton, and Virginia Oja of Marcell; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Chad and Jen Currier, Caitlyn and Jack of Esko, Klayton and Becky Ament and Dalton of Owatonna, Derek and Tanya and Reily of Mahtowa, Candice and Brandon Belich of Wrenshall, Carmen Currier and Chloe of Cloquet, Kim and Eric Elhardt, Ethan, Dylan, and Aidan of Marcell, Erik Oja of St. Paul, and Karen Oja of Golden Valley; brothers, Norbert and Leo (Dolores), both of Wadena, Andy (Deann) and Tom (Peggy), both of Bluffton, and George (Penny) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and sisters, Amelia Schmitz, Helen (Bob) Gorghuber, Theresa (Leo) Goeden, all of Wadena, Alice (Urban) Keppers of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary (Don) Kuntz of Glenwood.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, on Nov. 11, 1999; his parents, Henry and Clara; and a brother, Edwin.
