Rastrelli Cello Quartet to perform in Wadena
Four Cellos -- a cello quartet -- which plays not only classical music, but ragtime and jazz? Not possible you say? Oh, but it is -- and it's accomplished by four fabulous Russian cellists who live in Germany and who formed their unique ensemble in 2003.
Since then they have performed across Europe, Russia and Canada, and now are in the midst of their second tour in the mid section of the United States. In fall 2007, they made their debut tour here, playing 31 concerts in 41 days.
The Rastrelli Cello Quartet will be performing in Wadena at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at Memorial Auditorium. They arrive in town as guests of the Wadena Area Concert Association and as part of the 2009-10 concert series.
Their program will consist of serious classical music by Tchaikovsky, Handel, Saint-Saens, Rachmaninoff, Grieg and Mendelssohn. On the lighter side, audience members will be treated to pieces by Gershwin, Leroy Anderson, Dave Brubeck and Leonard Bernstein, with all arrangements by Sergio Drabkine.
To attend, you need to be a member of the Wadena Area Concert Association, and if you are not already a member, call Bonnie Kingsley at (218) 631-4178.
