Ralph Simon, 94, of Wadena, passed away Oct. 17, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
He was born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Winter) on July 17, 1915, in Waubun, Minn. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was united in marriage with Rose Kluenenberg on Oct. 4, 1948, in Bluffton. Ralph will be remembered as serving the community as a taxi driver and as a school bus driver for many years. He enjoyed antiques, auctions, fishing, playing cards, dancing, furniture restoration and story-telling. He was a member of the community for 53 years and belonged to the VFW and Disabled American Veterans.
The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Pallbearers were Scott Kern, Matthew Umbreit, Ralph Eisenschenk, Nicholas Eisenschenk, Tim Schwartz, and Don Zuehlke. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey (fiancee Sharon Rohl) of Brainerd; daughter, Celeste Simon (husband Ralph Eisenschenk) of Sauk Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Priscella (Clarence) Staska of Mahnomen; and special friend, Fern Greiner.
Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose, in February 1996; his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth; a son, Terry, in 2003; brothers, Elmer, Art, Roy, Leander, and Clarence; and sisters, Adeline and Lauretta.
