Ralph Douglas Schwartz, 88, passed away on Tuesday evening, Feb. 27, 2007, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
He was born to Albert and Emma (Johnson) Schwartz on Feb. 28, 1918, on the family farm in rural Bluffton. He attended rural school until the eighth grade and continued to work the family farm. He entered the Army on June 8, 1942, and served, starting in North Africa, until his discharge on Oct. 21, 1945. He was united in marriage to Betty Marie Rohr on Sept. 24, 1946 in Wadena. He started his own business, Wadena Electric, where he worked for 50-plus years. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed his time working and visiting with friends and family.
Survivors include his son, Joseph; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Eunice) of Wadena, Richard (Louise) of Mesa, Ariz., Roland of Eugene, Ore. and Rodney (Pam) of Donna, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on Aug. 5, 2000; his parents; and his sister, Marilyn Schultz.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 6, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Johnson Memorial Home of Wadena was in charge of the arrangements.
