Raiders to field veteran track and field squad
Ken Miller will put a veteran team on the track this spring as the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale girls build on a strong 2013 performance.
"Our No. 1 goal in 2014 is to compete in all meets as a team and as individuals," Miller said. "We have a deeper team than last year and that should help us move up in the conference and True Team standings."
Miller has 34 athletes on his 2014 team. Leading the way will be seniors Krista Dailey, Kasey Willis and Samara Tobeck, junior Rumor Stokes and sophomore Kathryn Barrett. Dailey qualified for the Class A state meet last year in the shot put and rates as a conference and section favorite this season. Willis is a conference and section favorite in the 300 hurdles. Rounding out the team will be seniors Savanna Buderus (sprints, throws) and Brittany Bloch (sprints); juniors McKenzie Richter (distance), Jessica Wright (sprints, mid-distance), Mathilda Evensen (sprints, jumps) and Manuela Scavazza (sprints); sophomores Taylor Shamp (mid-distance), Abby Foy (sprints, long jump), Vanessa Eisenbraun (mid-distance), Shania Glenz (sprints, throws) and Sam Kveton (sprints, throws), freshmen Tapanga Flanery (mid-distance), Becca Conn (sprints, jumps), Aubree Seals (sprints) and Amy Ismil (sprints, hurdles); eighth-grader Adison Neal (sprints, jumps); and seventh-graders Erica VanDenheuvel (jumps, sprints), Courtney Templin (sprints, mid-distance), Alyssa Thompson (sprints), Morgan Glenz, (sprints, jumps), Mardi Ehrmantraut (mid-distance, distance) and Michelle Ismil (sprints, jumps).
