District Governing Board was called to order

by Chairman Pierce at 7:30 p.m. on Tues-

day, May 25, 2010 at Freshwater Education

District conference Room A in Staples.

Board Members Present: Lee Truax,

Rod Thalmann, Twila Pierce, Curtis Hasbar-

gen, Charles Funk, Chad Longbella, Steve

Techem, Roger Kalodrich, Daryl Brever,

Margaret Knebel

Board Members Absent: Tony Glenz

Superintendents:

Review and Approve Agenda

Motion by Thalmann, seconded by Funk to

approve the final agenda as revised. The

motion carried.

Clerk's Report

Motion by Knebel, seconded by Hasbar-

gen to approve the minutes of the April 27,

2010 meeting as presented. The motion car-

ried.

Coordinator Reports / Information

Items

Gifted Creative and Talented: Bruce Lund

for Amy Hunter

Results of the Freshwater Student Art

Show were shared. Raptor Program from U

of M Raptor Center and Pilot Middle School

Poetry Residency was shared.

ALC/Perkins/Career & Technical: Sue

Boehland

ALC Graduation information was provided.

ALC Summer Schedule shared.

Mike Delaney, Judy Richer and Sue Boeh-

land went to the Department of Education to

present the Perkins Grant on May 21st. The

presentation went well and questions were

able to be asked both from their perspective

and ours.

LEAN Training will be held June 15th and

16th. This training is a process for the way

you may look at something. The training will

be held at CLC in Brainerd.

AP Accounting Training will be held July

14-16. Sebeka will be sending a teacher. If

others are interested, please contact Sue

Boehland.

OCHS (Online College in the High

School): Sue Boehland

This is available for students from all

schools. Sebeka has some students attend-

ing.

Homeless Grant: Sue Boehland

We will not be applying for the homeless

grant at this time.

Donations/Grants

Motion by Brever, seconded by Longbella

to accept the Five Wings Arts Council Grant

in the amount of $4550.00 for Todd Green

Residency to be held October 2010. The mo-

tion carried.

Motion by Thalmann, seconded by Kalo-

drich to accept the Todd Wadena Commu-

nity Trust Grant in the amount of $160.00 for

Circle of Parents Program. The motion car-

ried.

Motion by Funk, seconded by Knebel to

accept the donation of $250.00 from Grey

Eagle/Bertram Lions for RIF (Reading Is

Fundamental). The motion carried.

Staff/Contract Changes/Lane Changes

Motion by Longbella, seconded by Kalo-

drich to reinstate the contract of Allison De-

war, FACTS Family Service Worker at 70%

FTE, Grade 13, 180 days. The motion car-

ried.

Motion by Longbella, seconded by Has-

bargen to reinstate the contract of Lisa Ha-

glin, Family Education/SR Instructor at 785.5

Hours. The motion carried.

Motion by Funk, seconded by Hasbargen

to reinstate the contract of Brenda Lindberg,

Family Education Instructor at 976 Hours.

The motion carried.

Motion by Knebel, seconded by Thalmann

to approve the hiring of Eric Weber, MA Step

9, 180 days as Physically Impaired/Aut-

ism/Assistive Technology Specialist. First

day of Work: 8/18/10. The motion carried.

Motion by Kalodrich, seconded by Funk to

reinstate the contract of Teresa Gould/SPED

Paraprofessional at 569 hours. The motion

carried.

Motion by Hasbargen, seconded by Truax

to reinstate the contract for Brenda An-

drews/SPED Paraprofessional at 576 hours.

The motion carried.

Motion by Brever, seconded by Truax to

approve the resignation of Dave Osgood,

School Psychologist effective June 30, 2010.

The motion carried.

Motion by Thalmann, seconded by Knebel

permission to advertise and hire for a full

time School Psychologist position. The mo-

tion carried.

Motion by Truax, seconded by Kalodrich to

approve the maternity leave request for To-

nia Judd to begin approximately August 24,

2010 with length of leave around 10-12

weeks. The motion carried.

Motion by Brever, seconded by Hasbargen

to reinstate the contract of Sandy Reed, Pro-

gram Secretary/Tech Tutor at Grade 8, 1440

hours. The motion carried.

Motion by Kalodrich, seconded by Funk to

reinstate the contract of Shari Pung, Pro-

gram Secretary/Tech Tutor at 1260 hours,

20% Grade 8 and 80% grade 7. The motion

carried.

Motion by Brever, seconded by Truax to

approve the Part-Time ALC Director/Carl

Perkins Coordinator Contract Agreement as

presented for Sue Boehland. The motion

carried.

Motion by Thalmann, seconded by Kalo-

drich to rescind the motion made on April

27th, 2010, Bus Driver Stanton Grading at

Grade 8. Motion carried by show of hands.

Motion by Funk, seconded by Brever to re-

scind the motion made on April 27th, 2010,

Van Driver Stanton Grading at Grade 7. Mo-

tion carried by show of hands.

Motion by Hasbargen, seconded by Funk

to approve the Stanton Grading of Freshwa-

ter Bus Drivers from Grade 8 to Grade 7 ef-

fective 7-1-2010. The motion carried.

Motion by Truax, seconded by Brever to

approve the Stanton Grading of Freshwater

Van Drivers from Grade 7 to Grade 6 effec-

tive 7-1-2010. The motion carried.

Education District

Motion by Funk, seconded by Thalmann to

approve the Superintendent Consulting

Agreement with Mahnomen as presented for

services of Jerry Nesland for the 10-11

school year. The motion carried.

Motion by Knebel, seconded by Brever to

approve the E-Rate Consulting Agreement

for FY 10-11 Service Provider and Applicant

Filing for Jeffrey Hunt. The motion carried.

Motion by Longbella, seconded by Has-

bargen to approve the Special Vocational

Rehabilitation Counselor Agreement with

Staples Motley #2170 as presented. The mo-

tion carried.

Motion by Thalmann, seconded by Knebel

to approve the April FED Financial report

and payment of checks numbered

105299-105630. The motion carried.

Motion by Hasbargen, seconded by Long-

bella to authorize mandatory direct deposit

for Freshwater Education District. The mo-

tion carried.

Motion by Longbella, seconded by Truax

to approve the purchase of the SPED Build-

ing in Wadena (Lots One and Two, Sunny-

brook Park First Addition) from Tri-County

Hospital, Inc. as presented. The motion car-

ried.

Motion by Funk, seconded by Thalmann to

approve the closing of account # 080986 and

transfer remaining balance of $77,436.96 to

new account #4100798163 at 1st Interna-

tional Bank and Trust. The motion carried.

Motion by Longbella, seconded by Brever

to approve Budget Revision III as presented.

The motion carried.

A Lauder Mill Hearing will be held on June

21, 2010. Board Chair will be in attendance

along with the Executive Director and ALC

Coordinator.

No one in attendance

Retiring Superintendents

Bruce Lund recognizes and thanks Bob

Sieling, Bertha Hewitt Superintendent for his

leadership and support of Freshwater Edu-

cation District and the students and families

that we serve. We wish him the best in his

retirement.
