Poster Contest winners named
In a county-wide poster contest, two area fifth- and sixth-graders were selected to have their drawings on billboards.
Hope Norenberg, sixth grade, Wadena-Deer Creek Elementary School and Alayna Lake, fifth grade, Menahga Elementary School created posters with a "Stand Up and Be Active" message.
First-place winners receive $25 cash and their poster on a billboard for all to see in mid-November. The actual billboards will be along U.S. Highway 71 South, near Bertha and Long Prairie.
Other Wadena County winners included:
Second Place, $15 cash prize winners were Lauren Soroko, sixth grade, WDC Elementary School, and Jordan Yliniemi, sixth grade, Menahga Elementary School.
Third Place, $10 cash prize winners were Casie Polman, sixth grade, St. Ann's School in Wadena and Amber Johnson, fifth grade, Sebeka Elementary School.
All fifth- and sixth-grade classrooms with 75 percent or more participation in the poster contest received ice cream treats. The students were asked to describe types of activities they do each day to be active, how many days per week, what more could they do, and name places in their town where they can go to be active.
The poster billboard contest is sponsored annually by Todd-Wadena Healthy Connections, a health coalition established in 1993 made up of public and private health agencies serving the communities of Todd and Wadena counties.
