Post 171 belts out 20 hits in season finale at Pequot Lakes
The Wadena-Deer Creek American Legion team pounded out 20 hits Tuesday in gaining a split in their regular season finale at Pequot Lakes.
Kyle Dykhoff's Post 171 team beat Crosslake 9-8 in their first game at Pequot before losing a 9-3 decision to Aitkin.
Kenny Sakry's RBI double sparked a four-run rally in the top of the seventh as WDC rallied past Crosslake. Sakry went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Nine WDC batters went to the plate in the seventh.
Jonathan Goeden chalked up the win in relief.
Aspen Florey and Gaven Bickford both had a pair of hits for Crosslake. Bickford drove in three runs and Florey scored twice.
Dean Lynn went 3-for-5 with two ribbies and Alex Bobenmoyer went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI as Aitkin topped WDC.
Sakry was 3-for-3 in the loss with two doubles. Ryan Redfield backed him up with two hits in four trips, two runs and one RBI.
The WDC crew ends the regular season with a record of 13-6-1.
Post 171 enters sub-district play Monday at Menahga, ranked No. 3. Waiting for them in a 4 p.m. game will be No. 2-ranked Sebeka.
"If we have our pitching show up, we are going to be tough to beat," WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff said. "Our goal is to get to district and play Long Prairie-Grey Eagle again."
Long Prairie-Grey Eagle ended the season for Dykhoff's WDC high school varsity team in section action at St. Cloud.

Post 171 overcame a four-run first inning by Staples-Motley and cruised to a six-inning victory in Monday's first game.
WDC's Jake Krause was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run.
Tyler Holub came up with two hits and one RBI in the loss.
David Najjar weathered his rough first frame to earn the win. Blake Petrich suffered the pitching loss.
Seth Auger went 2-for-2, scored once and drove in a run as Staples-Motley came back to win the second game.
Najjar led WDC with two hits.
Jordan Wick was the winner while Jeremy Hoemberg took the loss.
