May 2

• A man was pulled over and suspected of drunk driving. His eyes were bloodshot and watery. His speech was slurred. He also had a 30-pack of beer in the front seat and empty beer cans in the back seat. The officer asked him how much he had to drink, and he said "none." The officer asked him again, and he said "a couple" and then "probably four." He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and the man said he probably would not pass them. He did not. A breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .241, more than three times the legal limit. He was arrested for DWI and driving after revocation.

May 4

• A Western show saddle was reported stolen, as well as some saddle blankets.

May 6

• A caller warned authorities there may be problems with a man who was recently released from prison who has ties to the Latin Kings gang. The man has a family connection to Wadena County.

• A woman reported her son and his friend were assaulted, and one of the kids used brass knuckles.

May 7

• An 18-wheeler came through a railroad crossing and hit a crossing arm, breaking it off. An oncoming train then hit the broken crossing arm. A railroad official was contacted to fix the arm.

• An officer assisted with a landlord/tenant dispute. The prospective tenant said she had given $375 to a landlord to hold a house she wanted to rent, but changed her mind five to six hours later and wanted her money back. She had never signed a lease, but the landlord refused to return the money.

• A motorist flagged down an officer to report that a bearded man on a bicycle was weaving all over the road and had a 12-pack of beer under his arm.

• A woman reported her vehicle had been damaged by a hit-and-run driver. She said she was parked on Jefferson Street South between 8:45 and 10 p.m. and when she came out of a business, her side mirror was cracked and tilted, and there were two dents on the driver's side of the car.

May 8

• A man reported hearing 11 gunshots. There were five shots, then a pause, then six more shots. The shots were reported in the area of 150th Street.

May 9

• A caller reported a possible burglary in progress. It was later discovered that the caller's brother was just returning a lawnmower he had borrowed.

• Police assisted with an unruly patient in the emergency room. The woman, who was involved in a car accident, was apparently inebriated according to a nurse's report, had no pants on, and was cursing, including using the n-word repeatedly. She also went to another patient and removed an immobilization collar from the man's neck.

May 10

• Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a motel room. The woman said she and a man had been arguing because she had previously sold some of his property and he wasn't aware of it until now. She said he got in her face and she scratched him, and then he had repeatedly hit her. Asked if he had hit her, the man responded, "Yeah, I smacked the [expletive] out of her." He was arrested for domestic assault.

• A resident reported a train car that was leaking a foamy substance on the tracks. An officer spoke to a railroad official who said it was soap and water, which is used for a cooling agent.

• Two members of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency reported that on May 7, they had conducted an inspection of a location in Wadena County, and one of the employees of the farm had dumped liquid manure on their state vehicle. The owner said the incident was a mistake from a quick tractor stop, and the owners helped the employees clean the manure off the car.
