The Verndale Pirates shook off a Thursday night loss to Upsala by clipping Park Region Conference foe Pillager 60-56 Friday.

Four Verndale players finished the night in double figures with Sarah Moenkedick scoring 16, Elyssa Kern netting 15, Shania Glenz canning 11 and Jordyn Glenz tacking up 10.

The Huskies kept the game close and trailed by a single point, 28-27, at the half. Gabby Martin, Carly Bell and Paige Leifermann scored 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

The victory gave the Pirates a 12-2 mark overall and a 7-0 record in the PRC.

Three Cardinals scored in double figures as Upsala stopped Verndale's winning streak at 11.

Kaelin Smieja and Sara Herzog both scored 13 points while Katlin Welinski netted 11.

The Pirates held a 27-24 lead at the half but managed just 19 points the rest of the way.

Jordyn Glenz had a double-double for the Pirates scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Shania Glenz canned 11 points.

The loss was Verndale's first since a season-opening loss to Browerville.

Rugged defensive play by the Pirates kept Sebeka's shooters quiet Jan. 13 in a Park Region Conference tilt at Verndale.

The victory was Verndale's 11th in a row after a season-opening loss to Browerville and gave the Pirates a perfect 6-0 mark against PRC competition.

Art Schluttner's Pirates held the Trojans to only a dozen points in the first half and took a 14-point advantage into the second half.

Heidi Olson was the only Sebeka player in double figures with 13 points. The Trojans shot 36 percent from the field.

Shania Glenz canned 13 points for the Pirates while Jordyn Glenz tacked up 10. Sarah Moenkedick and Krista Dailey contributed eight points each. The Pirates converted on 45 percent of their floor shots.

Dailey grabbed 12 rebounds and Jordyn Glenz collected 10 as the Pirates came down with 39 rebounds in the win.
