Jordyn Glenz scored 14 of her 16 game points in the second half Friday as the Verndale Pirates edged Pine River-Backus 49-43.

The Verndale standout dropped in five of her second half field goals and made four of nine free throw attempts to rally the Pirates from a 24-22 halftime deficit. The Pirates finally took the lead with six minutes remaining in the game.

Also scoring in double figures for the Pirates were Shania Glenz, Sarah Moenkedick and Krista Dailey with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively. The Pirates shot just 33 percent from the field while the host Tigers shot at at 42 percent clip.

"It was nice to get our first win of the year," Verndale head coach Art Schluttner said. "PRB did a good job on defense, slowing us down and forcing some mistakes early in the game."

Elizabeth Downie led the Tigers with a dozen tallies. Megan Felthous scored 11 points.

Shania and Jordyn Glenz combined for 14 of Verndale's 25 rebounds. The Tigers picked up 31 boards.

Quinn Kircher's 38 points sparked the Tigers in a tight four-point victory over Art Schluttner's Pirates Dec. 3.

The Pirates took a slim 35-34 lead into the halftime locker room.

Shania Glenz was Verndale's top scorer with 27 tallies. Jordyn Glenz had a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Krista Dailey gave the Pirates 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Tigers shot 47 percent from the field while the Pirates shot 39 percent.
