Justin Sperling's Verndale Pirates gained a split in their own tournament Saturday as they topped Pine River-Backus 17-7 after falling to Lake Park-Audubon 8-6.
The Pirates were guilty of six errors in the opener and Cody Yungbauer was hung with the mound loss.
Brady Siedschlaw and Matt Moenkedick each drove in two runs for the Pirates. Colby Schmidt had two of Vendale's 11 hits.
Jesse Wixo homered for the Raiders.
The Pirates rapped out 14 hits in Game 2 with Yungbauer and Nate Bart driving in four runs apiece.
Andy Davidson homered for the Tigers, who held a 7-0 lead in the top of the third.
Aaron Bounds picked up the mound victory.
"Aaron settled down after a rough start and pounded the strike zone," Sperling said.
The Pirates were guilty of only two miscues in Game 2.

Brandon Mickelson went 2-for-3 and homered as the Braves improved to 12-5 with a Park Region Conference victory over the Pirates.
The Braves had to fight back from a 3-2 deficit after the Pirates scored three times in the bottom of the sixth.
Derek Pihlaja came up with the mound win for the Braves. Jay Runyan was hung with the loss in relief of Clay Cottrell.

The Bulldogs capitalized on five errors and a six-run sixth inning Tuesday to hand the Pirates a Park Regional Conference loss.
Wes Green paced the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBIs. Green tripled in the big sixth inning.
Matt Moenkedick doubled for the Pirates and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Colby Schmidt had two RBIs in the loss.
Jeff Hamann racked up the victory while Dustin Motschenbacher took the loss.
