Pirates collect seventh straight cage win

The Verndale Pirates racked up their seventh straight cage win Monday with a 60-49 non-conference decision over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.

Art Schluttner's club has not lost a game since Jan. 14 when they bowed to Browerville in a non-conference tilt. The Pirates are 14-5 overall and own second place in the Park Region Conference with a 6-3 mark.

Shania Glenz paced Verndale with 14 points while Jordyn Glenz netted 13 and Teresa Moenkedick scored 12. The Pirates took 24 more shots than the visiting Wolves and shot 44 percent from the floor.

The Wolves shot 61 percent from the field, but took only 31 shots. The Wolves also shot well at the free throw line where they were 11 of 13 for 85 percent.

Brooke Lund was WHA's top gunner with 18 points. Maxine Smith chipped in with 13.

The loss dropped the Wolves to 6-13.

The Pirates host Sebeka on Tuesday in a PRC game.

Teresa Moenkedick poured in 25 points Feb. 1 as the Pirates topped the Eagles in a Park Region Conference tilt.

Shania Glenz, Elyssa Kern and Sarah Moenkedick all scored a dozen points in the victory.

Ellie Rutten tallied 25 points for the Eagles.
