Phyllis I. Olson, 72, of Wadena, passed away Dec. 1, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Phyllis was born Feb. 18, 1937, to Fred and Freida (Rach) Juergens in their home in Bartlett Township, in rural Verndale. Phyllis was united in marriage with John David Olson on Dec. 18, 1954 in the old St. John Lutheran Church on Jefferson Street South in Wadena. They resided in Fairmont, Minn. for six years. John passed away Oct. 1, 1961 and Phyllis returned to Wadena where she will be remembered as an employee at Woolworths, the Camera Shop and Church Supplies, Stern & Field Clothiers, Wadena Public School, and the Wadena City Library. In later years she became a ward secretary at Tri-County Hospital until her retirement. In her free time she liked to crochet, needlepoint, craft, read, watch baseball, girls softball, and football, and had proudly attended more than 40 Minnesota Twins baseball games. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and St. John Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena with Vicar Stephen Meltzer officiating. Pallbearers were her three sons, and grandsons Christopher Olson, Erik Jon Olson and Brian Olson. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Survivors include her three loving sons, Michael of Illinois, Thomas of Fargo, N.D., and David of Lombard, Ill.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, LaVonne Piepkorn and Marlyn Freer, both of Wadena.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Fred and Freida; her sister, Marlys Besett; and in-laws, Ingvart and Winifred Olson.
