The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines wrapped up their 2010 regular season with a perfect 26-0 record Tuesday by sweeping Section 8AA foe Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 3-0.

The second-ranked Wolverines posted wins of 25-18, 25-19, 25-10 in a match that might be a preview to the upcoming Section 8AA finals. The Wolverines have the best record in the south half of Section 8AA. The sixth-ranked Rebels are No. 1 in the north half. The Section 8AA tournament begins Oct. 28.

Courtney Volkmann had 30 set assists and eight ace serves in Tuesday's match. Courtney and Caitlin Volkmann shared digging honors with 10 apiece. Mandy Perkins, Avery Jackson and Brittney Noon combined for 23.

Rachel Craig and Rachael Carlisle combined for 15 blocks. Brittney Noon came up with a game-high 14 kills to go along with her five ace serves. Emily Miron was credited with 10 kills.

The Wolverines will enter section competition with the longest streak in Class AA and the second-longest streak in the state. Class A powerhouse Mabel-Canton is sporting a 31-game win streak.

Wolverines win Alexandria Tournament

Sue Volkmann's club looked at four new teams in the Alexandria Tournament and defeated them all on the way to the championship.

Hungry to test themselves against new competition and larger schools, the Wolverines played Minnetonka, Cold Spring-Rocori and Grand Rapids in pool play. They lost their first game to Minnetonka 25-23. The Wolverines shook off the effects of the first blemish on their perfect season record quickly and won 25-10, 15-11.

The Wolverines went on to sweep outstate foes Cold Spring-Rocori 25-23, 25-14 and Grand Rapids 25-21, 25-20 to earn a shot at North St. Paul. The Wolverines squeaked out a 25-23 victory in the opener but the Polars took the second game 31-29. WDC was a 15-9 winner in Game 3.

Courtney Volkmann gave another strong all-around performance. The WDC senior had 107 assists, 32 digs, 10 ace serves, 20 blocks and 16 kills.

Brittney Noon led the Wolverine attack with 32 kills. Kelsi Crawford and Emily Miron tied with 26.

Miron and Rachel Craig paced WDC at the net with 38 and 33 blocks respectively.

Hope Theisen had 46 digs.

The Wolverines celebrated the addition of new bleachers to their Wadena Elementary court last Thursday with a sweep of Class 3A Bemidji.

Courtney Volkmann led a balanced defensive effort with 10 digs and received balanced help in the front line from Rachel Craig, Emily Miron and Rachael Carlisle who combined for 19 blocks.

Volkmann had eight ace serves and 26 assists.

Miron led a balanced offensive attack with nine kills.
