Pequot upsets WDC girls in Sub-Section 8AA action
Kim Narveson went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs Tuesday as the seventh-ranked Pequot Lakes Patriots upset the second-ranked Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 4-2 in the first round of the Sub-Section 8AA fast pitch tournament.
Narveson and teammate Megan Hogen both laced triples in the victory on the Wadena softball field.
Leah Dykhoff reached twice for the Wolverines on bunt singles.
Kelly DeFoe was hung with the loss while Kayla Wangen gained the victory.
The Wolverines, who defeated Pequot 7-5 and 6-1 May 20 in Wadena, ended the season with a 13-7 record.
The Wolverines kept rolling along with a sweep of the Yellowjackets last Friday in Wadena.
Leah Dykhoff, Jessica Wegscheid and Sam Holweger all collected two hits as the Wolverines held off a late comeback by Perham in Game 1.
Steph Hahn tossed five scoreless innings before the Yellowjackets came up with three runs in the sixth. Hahn weathered the storm to pick up the victory.
Kelly DeFoe baffled the Yellowjackets with a one-hitter in Game 2. DeFoe walked two and fanned two to gain the complete game victory. The WDC hurler had a no-hitter going against Staples-Motley Tuesday before a late rally by the Cardinals forced cost her the victory.
Dykhoff, Hahn and Megan Popp all had two hits in the second game with Dykhoff scoring twice and Popp driving in two runs.
Tiana Lynne was 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.

Amanda Perkins and Steph Hahn racked up pitching victories May 20 as the Wolverines swept a pair from Mid-State foe Pequot Lakes.
Perkins worked three innings for her pitching win. Hahn pitched the final four frames fanning four and not allowing a walk.
Leah Dykhoff, Sam Holweger and Megan Popp combined for six hits, three runs and five RBIs in the win.
Brooke Serling went 2-for-4 in the loss.
Perkins, Holweger and Lexie Hoemberg combined for five hits, two runs and two ribbies as the Wolverines won the nightcap.
Hahn went all seven inning for WDC fanning three while not allowing a walk.
Megan Hogen was 2-for-4 for Pequot Lakes.
