Penalty-riddled Rockets limp past Verndale Pirates
There had to be some sore feet in Underwood last Friday night after the Rockets tacked up a 28-6 victory over Verndale.
Kyle Jensen scored all four of Underwood's touchdowns as he racked up a whopping 243 yards on 28 carries.
But for all of Jensen's heroics, the Rockets were guilty of shooting themselves in the foot 13 times in the Pheasant Conference game for a loss of 88 yards.
Jensen gave Underwood the early advantage by zipping 65 yards for a first quarter touchdown.
The young Verndale crew matched Jensen's trip into the end zone with a nifty 14-yard second quarter scoring pass from receiver Dallas Ehrmantraut to receiver Marcos Gomez.
The Rockets took a 14-6 lead into the half as Jensen found running room on a seven-yard jaunt.
Underwood's huge 387-94 rushing advantage guaranteed the 2010 Prep Bowl finalists would prevail in the second half. Jensen hit paydirt from 14 yards out in the third quarter and rumbled in from seven yards out in the final quarter.
Andy Bounds rushed 26 times for 98 yards in the loss. Dillon Card completed seven of his 15 passes for 62 yards. Ehrmantraut caught five balls for 45 yards.
Colton Moyer had a monster night on defense with 22 tackles. Bounds and Dan Fisher had 17 and 14 stops respectively. Kory Stave, Travis Lollar and Card combined for 37.
The Pirates will host Bertha-Hewitt Friday in a Pheasant Conference test set for 7 p.m.
