Patriots oust Blue Devils from Section 6A playoffs
Bailee Englund and Alex Palm iced two goals apiece as Pequot Lakes trounced Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 7-2 Saturday in a Section 6A hockey match at Breezy Point.
The Patriot out-shot the Blue Devils 54-17 and earned the right to advance to Alexandria Tuesday for a match with the top-ranked Cardinals.
Katelyn Barthel gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in the first period off feeds by Hayli Toenyan and Kylee Damm.
Englund and Ines St. Martin answered for the Patriots and gave Pequot a 2-1 lead after one period.
Sam Killian tied the game at 2-2 with a short-handed goal at the 1:53 mark of the second period. Barthel was credited with an assist.
The Patriots dominated the rest of the game with Palm scoring twice and Englund, Mandy Carlson and Megan Snyder scoring once.
Sarah Holm kicked out 47 shots in the loss while Madison Galligan stopped 15 of 17 shots in the victory.
The Blue Devils ended their season with a 5-19 record.
