Panthers race past Wolverines

The Park Rapids Panthers won their first Mid-State Conference game of the season Tuesday night as they defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 72-32 on the Wadena hard court.

Riley Johnson was high point man for the Panthers with 18 points. Tyler McCollum scored 17 and Jordan McCollum tallied 15 points for the Panthers, who converted on 28 of their 63 field goal shots for a 44 percent clip.

Dylan Dumpprope tacked up a dozen points for the Wolverines. Dumpprope was eight of 10 at the foul line.

The Wolverines converted on eight of just 31 field goal attempts for a 26 percent average.

Park Rapids held a 21-15 edge on the boards.

The victory gave Park Rapids a 1-4 conference mark and a 4-7 season record. The Wolverines dropped to 1-3 in the Mid-State and 4-6 on the season.

Doug Haas and his WDC cagers will host Pelican Rapids in a Jan. 18 game.

The Rangers received scoring from nine different players Jan. 4 as they breezed past Wadena-Deer Creek in a Mid-State Conference tilt on the Wadena hard court.

The Rangers dominated the first half 42-15. The Wolverines came back to outscore Crosby-Ironton 27-23 in the second half.

Will Goodwin and Daniel Hudrlik led the Rangers with 13 points each. Riley Jacobs netted 11. The Rangers shot 51 percent from the field.

The Rangers held a 33-28 edge on the boards.

Dylan Dumpprope and Jacob Goeden were the only WDC cagers to reach double figures, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively. Goeden hauled down a team-high eight boards while Dumpprope grabbed seven.

The victory gave the Rangers an 8-2 season record and a 3-0 mark in conference play.
