P-B building coming down
The Pederson-Biddick building is going down, and the council awarded the bid to Veit Companies for $122,000 during the regular meeting on Dec. 14.
The options for the demolition which were approved included Alternate 1 which was to remove silos between the scale and the railroad tracks and Alternate 2 which was to remove the foundations for those.
Alternate 3, which was not approved, included salvaging pieces of equipment and items of potential historic significance.
"That $7,000 will be a good investment for us, so we will not accept Alternate 3," City Administrator Brad Swenson said.
There were 13 demolition bids in all.
WDA director Dean Uselman said the Wadena County Historical Society has good pictures from building's heyday.
The council and department heads discussed potential problems of rats and pigeons scattering from the building.
