Outside agency to lend legal aid to Wadena County attorney's office
Pederson & Pederson P.A. will provide temporary professional services for Wadena County Attorney Kyra Ladd until she can find a replacement for departing Assistant County Attorney Kristi Nielsen. The attorneys will receive $5,000 per month for their services.
Ladd requested county commissioners approve her request for part-time help due to situations such as having court cases scheduled in both courtrooms next Tuesday and her being gone for a week at the end of the month. There is also a homicide trial coming up in March, she said.
"There's a lot of work to be done," she said.
Ladd anticipates the earliest she can hire a new assistant county attorney is the end of February. She would like some time to find a good replacement for Nielsen, she said.
"I don't want to just fill the position with a body," Ladd said.
Hiring month-to-month help is clearly not ideal, Ladd said.
"I don't know what alternatives I have," she said.
Commissioner Bill Stearns asked Ladd if Pederson & Pederson would provide at least 20 hours of service a week.
Ladd replied that they would.
Hansen & Pederson P.A. previsouly provided professional services for the county and Ladd said Pederson & Pederson will be able to hit the ground running.
