Funeral services were held for Norman Maloney, age 72 of Deer Creek, Minn. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with Pastor J.C. Duncan officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Shawn Redfield. Special music was provided by Norman Floden. The pallbearers were Phil Jasmer, John Hanson, Ace Becker, Allan Freitag, Dennis Wendt and Norbert Litzau. Norman was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, Deer Creek.
Norman Denis Maloney was born on January 12, 1941 in Fargo, N. D. His parents were the late Denis Norman and Mary Elizabeth (Gruman) Maloney. Norman grew up on the family farm South of Tower City. The Maloney family moved to Oak Valley Township, rural Deer Creek in 1952 where the family farmed. Norman started helping out area farmers when he was 14 years old. Norman graduated with the Class of 1960 from Deer Creek High School. He was employed with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement in 2002. Norman was united in marriage to Janet Olive Kolstad on April 17, 1982 in Underwood, Minn. Norman and Jan enjoyed their winters in Texas and summers in Minnesota. Norman was a church board member of Casa De Valle Church in Texas. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, walking outdoors, farming the fields and visiting with friends. On May 11, 2013 Norman passed away at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena at 72 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Norman in death was his parents.
Norman is survived by his wife, Janet; siblings: James (Sandra) Maloney; Thomas (Linda) Maloney; Patrick (Carolyn) Maloney; Kathy (James) Hill; Betty Redfield; Suzette (Randy) Maluchnk; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
