Nine walks sink Pirates
The Verndale Pirates were guilty of nine walks Thursday night in a 22-11 loss to Park Region Conference foe Otter Tail Central.
The Pirates led 10-3 after three innings but Wes Green triggered a 15-hit OTC attack with three safeties and six ribbies. Clay Cottrell led the Pirates at the plate with three hits in four trips and four RBIs.
Brett Collins earned the win in relief. Brady Siedschlaw was hung with the loss.

Brady Siedschlaw came out swinging last Tuesday as the Pirates won their season opener with the Eagles.
The Verndale slugger had a single, double and triple, scored three times and drove in four runs. Colby Schmidt set Siedschlaw up for his big RBI day with three stolen bases. Schmidt also scored twice.
Sophomore Dustin Motschenbacher gained the mound win with Mike Baune taking the loss.
"Despite some pitching struggles the team played solid defense," Verndale head coach Justin Sperling said.
Baune paced the Eagles at the plate by going 3-for-5.
