Niles receives DFL endorsement for Representative of District 9A
Don Niles of Wadena received the official Democrat-Farmer-Labor (DFL) endorsement to run for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 9A during the party's convention Sunday in Browerville.
"I was really honored to receive the endorsement. There were 60 delegates from the three counties in the district," Niles said. "The support was very enthusiastic and encouraging."
District 9A is an open spot created in the redistricting process and based on 2010 Census results. It covers southern and central Wadena County, most of Todd County and the panhandle of Cass County.
Niles was elected to the Wadena City Council in 2008, and his state office campaign will leave an open seat for municipal elections.
Niles said his campaign includes three main areas of focus: the importance of education, the rebalance of burdens among sales, income and property taxes, and the willingness to listen to all points of view while considering reasonable compromises in problem solving.
Niles initially announced his candidacy about three months ago on Leap Day. Along with being an attorney, he is also the chair of the Wadena 2.0 committee, which was formed after the June 17, 2010 tornadoes.
