Search for Mrs. Wadena County announced
Applications are being accepted for the title of Mrs. Wadena County, who will represent Wadena County at the Mrs. Minnesota pageant, which will be held in St. Cloud March 14, 2015. Competitions in the pageant include a personal interview, aerobic wear and evening gown.
The woman chosen as Mrs. Minnesota will receive a prize package worth $7,000 and the chance to represent Minnesota at the 2015 Mrs. International pageant in July.

WDC's back-to-school open house slated for Aug. 27
Wadena-Deer Creek Public School will host a back-to-school open house for students and families on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the elementary and middle/high school.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet teachers, tour the facilities, deposit lunch money, pay activity fees, fill out necessary forms, pick up class schedules and enjoy a free picnic-style meal served at both schools.
Wadena-Deer Creek classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 2. The school calendar for 2014-15 and school supply lists for grades K-6 are posted on the WDC School's website.
Blood drive seeks donors Aug. 11-12
The American Red Cross will hold blood drives on the following dates:
• Aug. 11 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Verndale Alliance Church.
• Aug. 12 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Wadena Deer Creek High School.
Ton donate, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Professor Marvel featured at the Wadena library July 30
The Wadena City Library welcomes back the amazing Professor Marvel Wednesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. Join Professor Marvel as he take the kids "outback" ... to the Australian Outback that is with Professor Marvel's all new Amazing Aussie Adventure. The show is free and open to kids of all ages.
The Professor will be joined by Paws the sheep dog. Paws has so much personality that he sometimes forgets that he is just a puppet. Like all of Professor Marvel's themed shows, the Amazing Aussie Adventure focuses on books and literacy and is chock full of great books, magic, comedy and fun.
