The Cultural Center in New York Mills will hold its annual meeting of the membership on Tuesday, April 15 at the Creamery in New York Mills.
Members at the annual meeting will receive an annual report from the Center and a report on activities planned for the upcoming year. New members of the board of directors will also be elected by the members present at the meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting will be preceded by a dinner catered by Harvest Thyme Bistro at 5:30 p.m. Reservations for the dinner are required and may be made by calling the Center at (218)385-3339.Wadena Soil and Water Conservation District offering scholarship
The Wadena SWCD will again be offering a $250 post-secondary scholarship. This scholarship is awarded each year to a student pursuing a degree in a Natural Resource or Agricultural related field.
Eligible candidates must be a resident of Wadena County. Candidates must be either attending a post-secondary educational program or be in their senior year of high school and preferably already accepted into or have applied for a post-secondary educational program in a Natural Resource or an Agricultural related field. As part of the application, a written essay will be required stating why the applicant has chosen their area of study.
Applications will be accepted no later than 4 p.m., Thursday, May 15. The applications will be voted on by the SWCD Board of Supervisors at the May Board meeting. The award winner will be notified by May 27.

The Cyber Cafe in Wadena will be hosting a community volunteer fair Thursday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The intention is to give nonprofit programs to “toot their own horn.” There are no fees. All churches and nonprofit organizations are invited to set up a display. A table will be provided by the Cyber Cafe. Each group is responsible for providing their own display board and information. Display set up will be Wednesday, April 23 after 10 a.m. through the evening.

WDC Elementary is in need of gently-used chapter books suitable for students in grades 2-4 for their “Ice Cream for Books” event. (WDC has plenty of picture books.) Books can be dropped off at the elementary school by April 10 during office hours, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Ice Cream for Books will be held on Thursday, April 10 from 6 to 7:30 for preschoolers-4th grade. Ice Cream for Books is an evening of FREE fun, including a Book Swap, Book Bingo, Book-A-Minute Giveaway, storytelling and, of course, ice cream! Wadena-Deer Creek High School’s seventh annual “Day of Caring” is slated for Wednesday, April 30. WDC students are looking for residents who would like their help with outdoor clean-up projects. If you have an outdoor project, call the Day of Caring phone number at (218) 632-2444. Requests are on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who put in a request can expect student coordinators to visit their home prior to the Day of Caring, so they know what needs to be done and how long it may take. Deadline for requests is April 16.WDC NHS needs recyclables by April 25
WDC National Honor Society students are collecting recyclables for their senior community-service project. For every item they receive, a set amount of money is donated to a global project called Charity: Water. They are collecting candy wrappers of any size or brand, Elmer’s glue containers and sticks, snack bags of any brand, dairy tubs cleaned out, Sharpie and Papermate writing utensils, cheese wrappers of any size and protein bar wrappers of any brand. Drop-off locations are at Wadena Super One and in the WDC Middle/High School entry way. The collection will end on April 25.Wadena County Historical Society semi-annual meeting April 11
The Wadena County Historical Society’s semi-annual meeting is Friday, April 11 at the Wadena Elks Lodge. A short business meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a presentation by guest speaker, Dean Urdahl of the Civil War Task Force, at 7 p.m.
