To speak at event April 19 in Wadena

Lindsay Gullingsrud of the Minnesota Coalition against Sexual Assault will speak at noon, Friday, April 19 at a Sloppy Joe Luncheon at the United Methodist Church in Wadena.

Her appearance is part of a Community Resource Fair to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

The event is sponsored by Someplace Safe during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Poverty meeting April 9 at St. Ann’s Church

A regional meeting, Connecting to End Poverty, will be held in Wadena Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena.

The event is sponsored by Northern Connections and A Minnesota Without Poverty.

Speakers will be Nancy Maeker, A Minnesota Without Poverty and Marcia Otte, Mahube-OTWA Community Action Partnership.

Discussion will include theFamily Economic Secueity Act and Pverty Impact Projection as well as issues important to the local area.

Benefit set for Menze family

A benefit concert will be held for the family of Adam Menze who was killed in an aircraft accident February 20 near Parkers Prairie. Menze is survived by his wife and six children.

The event will be held at the Ottertail Community Center in Ottertail from 2 to 6 p.m. The event is called Carnival for the Menze Kids and will feature games for all ages, a bake sale, silent auction and treats.

Organizers are still seeking items for the bakes sale and silent auction. People interested in doing so may contact Lori Field, 218-367-3014.

NFO sausage supper Today in Deer Creek

The 50th annual NFO Ottertail LMU Sausage Supper will be held Saturday,  April 6 at the Deer Creek Community Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The speaker will be NFO National President Paul Olson.

Deadline approaching for internship

Tri-County Health Care is offering a paid summer internship to area students interested in health care careers. The opportunity provides students a chance to work at Tri-County Health Care and give students a taste of the health care industry.

These popular internships are available to students the summer between their junior and senior year of high school. Interested students need to submit the TCHC employment application, available on the TCHC website at www.tricountyhospital.org, a letter of recommendation from a teacher (preferably a health occupations or science educator) and a letter explaining why they make a good candidate for this internship. Their letter should explain their interests, career plans and why they believe they should be chosen for the TCHC summer internship program. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 23.

All eligible candidates will be notified to arrange a time for an interview. The interns selected will work two days per week for a time period of six to seven weeks or 120 hours. A mandatory orientation will be held on Tuesday, June 11.

Square dance set

The Friendly Squares will host a square dance on Friday, April 12th, at the Century school in Park Rapids, Mn.  There will be a plus workshop at 7:30 pm. to 8 pm and mainstream dancing from 8 pm to 10 pm.   The caller will be Royce Nelson and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between tips. Potluck lunch will be furnished by the members. All square dancers & spectators are welcome.
