New web platform is beneficial
Some of you may have noticed that the Pioneer Journal website got a face lift this week.
Similar to the Perham Focus, Park Rapids Enterprise and Detroit Lakes Newspapers, which are all owned by Fargo-based Forum Communications Company, the Pioneer Journal now features a cleaner look, as well as other improvements.
Unlike the old website, the new platform is more accessible. The front page immediately features a sizeable featured content scroll area, which is placed at the top of the page, giving our town’s stories easier access and better visual representation.
With the new look there is also more user-friendliness. Navigating the new site is a breeze. Following the featured content area as you scroll down the page, each category of content is listed by row. There are also a couple of new categories, including Outdoors and Life sections. This wider range of content assignment comes at a perfect time, as spring is right around the corner and folks will be spending more time enjoying the warm-weather activities this area is known for in the coming months.
But not everything has changed with the new site. Featured Areavoices blogs will still greet you as you peruse the front page, contact and business information is available toward the bottom of the site and all the content stored in our previous platform has been transferred over to the new system.
Also, the new website still features advertising for local businesses that is located along the top and sides of the web pages.
The Pioneer Journal logo, which is the same one that was used on the former website, is perched in the top left corner of the new home page. As I’ve described, much of the content on the new platform is more visible, and is therefore larger, currently making our standing logo appear somewhat small. I’m working on making it larger and more prominent.
One thing to note when navigating the new site is that much of the news content that appears toward the top of the page is sorted as “latest” news, and is automatically moved from the lineup after a short time. If you’re interested in tracking down a particular news story, you can always type in key words in the search bar at the top of the page. Also, if you scroll down past the latest news and Areavoices rows, there is a regular news row that you can access to get to content. And, similar to the old site, section tabs – including the new ones – are spread across the top of the page.
The professionals at the Pioneer Journal work not only to provide excellent area news coverage, we also aim to give Wadena the representation it deserves. This website is a big step forward in representing our community, and we look forward to using it to share information with you for years to come.
