Kraus-Anderson Project manager Chad Rettke and a team of Perkins + Will designers were on hand Monday night to give the Wadena-Deer Creek school board some options on flooring and other furnishings for the secondary school under construction.

Rettke told the board that the materials they had originally selected for the school were $2 million short of what was budgeted.

According to WDC Superintendent Virginia Dahlstrom, the board wanted to gauge how far their money would reach and purposely selected less expensive materials.

"The goal is to stay within our budget," Dahlstrom said.

Bids for the work have been received from private contractors so Rettke's task now is to ask for new bids based on using more durable materials.

Julie McLeod, James Harworth and Lindsey Duffy of Perkins + Will showed the board samples of materials they could afford to upgrade to along with interior shots of the new school.

The durability of the newly selected materials should be at least 40 years according to the Perkins + Will team.

District 2155 officials are planning to start classes in the new 5-12 structure in September 2012.
