Kate Schmidt, daughter of Kent and Shaneen Schmidt, is advancing to the final level of competition in the Minnesota Music Teacher's State Piano Competition. Kate is competing with the piece "Festival in Aragon" by Lynn Freeman Olson, and is a student of Jackie Tellers.
Elizabeth Quincer has been named to the fall semester 2009 dean's list at Concordia College in Moorhead.
Matthew Peterson, of Wadena, was named to the fall semester dean's list at Northwest Technical College.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the Minnesota Chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce awarded four scholarships valued between $250 and $1,000 to four Minnesota high school students who won this year's GACC German Essay Writing Contest. The winners were Corbin Gillen from Maple Grove High School, Jenna Blake from Wayzata High School, Yalonda Nelson from Wadena-Deer Creek High School, and the first prize winner Thomas Schultz from Mora High School. The awards were presented during a dinner celebration at the German American Institute on historical Summit Avenue in St. Paul.
