Kevin Klawitter, a 2009 Wadena-Deer Creek High School graduate, was recently awarded a $1,500 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year.
Klawitter received the scholarship due to his excellent academic test scores and writing abilities, which placed him among the top nominees awarded in his congressional district, according to Sarah K. Smith, program coordinator for the scholarship.
This program, which is federally funded and state-administered, is designed to recognize exceptionally able high school seniors who show promise of continued excellence in postsecondary education.
Kevin plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he will study biology and pre-med. He is the son of Craig and Tammie Klawitter of Wadena.
