Motschenbacher spins three-hit gem

Dustin Motschenbacher fired a three-hitter as the Verndale Pirates blanked Parkers Prairie 1-0 Tuesday to gain a split of their Park Region Conference doubleheader at Anderson Park.

"Dustin Motschenbacher pitched a great game for the Pirates," Verndale head coach Matt Parker said. "He kept all three of his pitches down in the zone."

Isaac Schmitz led the Pirates at the plate in Game 2 with a 2-for-2 performance. Schmitz also scored the game's only run.

Ryan Peppersack scattered five hits in taking the loss.

Trey Thompson three-hit the Pirates in Game 1 as the Panthers won a 12-0 decision.

The Panther roughed Clay Cottrell up with an 11-hit attack.

Motschenbacher doubled and stole a base for Verndale. Schmitz and Mike Hejhal also collected hits.

Kasey Tyge fired a one-hitter in Game 1 and Marlin Aho threw five scoreless innings in Game 2 as the Braves swept the Pirates in a Park Region doubleheader.

Dallas Ehrmantraut collected Verndale's lone hit in the opener and also scored a run.

Dustin Motschenbacher went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Isaac Schmitz and Mike Hehjal also went 2-for-3.

"We played pretty good defense tonight, but we didn't get any timely hitting," Verndale head coach Matt Parker said.
